Layers in Photoshop allow you to work on one element of an image without disturbing the others.
Deleting layers you no longer need reduces the size of your image file. Use the Eraser tool on the two girls looking away, revealing the image below, where they look into the camera.
Select the topmost layer of that group and choose Merge Down from the Layers panel menu or the Layer menu. Make sure that all the layers you want to keep are visible.
Go over to your layers panel and highlight the layer or layers you want to merge together. We recommend, however, that before you flatten your image, you make a copy of the file with all its layers intact and save it as a native Photoshop file.

Select "Merge Down" to combine the currently selected layer with the layer immediately below it. Linked layers stay discrete, meaning you could edit them separately if you wanted.
